ABOUT US

Resource Harbour co-founder Sarah Taylor first had the idea of setting up the business when she was returning from an interview, for a salesperson role with a manufacturer of home security systems...

“I was asked by the young male Sales Manager what hours could I work...? Five days a week, plus Saturday mornings, and evening appointments...?

I replied that - if I was offered the role - I would make appropriate childcare arrangements around the role. They gave me a live exercise in the interview, selling a washing machine to the Sales Manager and the HR Director. I had to knock on the boardroom door and sell them a washing machine. In my previous life before children, I would have been unable to do that, not really understanding (nor wanting to understand) any washing machine benefits. Two children later, it was one of the easiest things I have ever done.

On my drive back home over the Severn Bridge, the penny dropped: given that the role required coverage on all days of the week, day and night, I was sure that two mums like myself - or any two parents - in that role, could have easily outperformed a single person. Two people could work three really long days each, every other Saturday - and also have a life. On the two days they weren’t on the job, they would still be in the world at the school gate, the gym, or playgroup - and sales opportunities are just as likely to arise in those situations as sitting in an office. By advertising the role as a job share partnership, the employer would have two enthused, engaged, motivated employees who between them worked long hours and had the week covered, and could make customer appointments when it suited them. Or, they could choose one full time individual who has no time to look after their own well-being and might become burnt out.”

Sarah started to notice the number of over-qualified professionals working in part time jobs that didn’t make the best use of their skills or they had lost confidence in themselves after taking a career break. “We see talent all around us, and we want to work with the qualified lawyer working part time in the village shop, the ex HR Director we see at playgroup or the software engineer struggling to make it on their own because they can’t find the right sort of flexible, contract opportunity.”

Sarah co-founded the business with Katie Hunt and Zina Pearce and our team has since grown. A young start-up with big ambitions, the Resource Harbour team are passionate about potential. As a resourcing consultancy, we offer complete talent solutions, reengineering roles and reimagining talent as required to deliver the quality outputs our clients require.
